Towns often share roads with adjacent towns along their municipal borders. Many towns have informal “handshake” agreements on how maintenance will be shared on these roads. For clarity between towns and especially as elected officials change over time, towns may want to formalize these informal agreements with written agreements signed by both the town supervisors and highway superintendents.
