June 13, 2024, VIEW ARTS Center, Old Forge, NY!

The Black River Watershed Conference Steering Committee invites you to attend the 14th Annual Black River Watershed Conference, to be held on June 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the View Arts Center, at 3273 NY-28, Old Forge, NY 13420.

The Black River Watershed Conference presents an opportunity for you to engage with a diverse spectrum of stakeholders working in areas related to water quality in the Black River Watershed, and across New York. Together, we aim to delve into pertinent water quality challenges and cultivate collaborative solutions within the watershed. This conference serves as a nexus for concerned citizens, local leaders, and stakeholders representing various communities, governmental bodies, conservation groups, and agencies. It serves as a platform for deliberating strategies to safeguard our environment, foster recreational opportunities, and address emergent issues across the watershed. Originating from the Black River Watershed Plan, this year’s conference will update participants living, working, and recreating within the watershed’s five counties and over sixty communities on an array of topics. These include the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) hydroelectric dam relicensing process, updates from Soil and Water Conservation Districts, a habitat restoration project by Ducks Unlimited and Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust at the Keller Mohawk Hill Public Conservation Area, insights into the Black River Adaptive Modeling Project, assessments of solar energy’s impact on agricultural landscapes and stormwater management, updates on Climate Smart Lewis County, and the Town of Forestport’s newly installed Boat Wash and Decontamination Station.

The registration fee for participants is $50, which includes access to all conference sessions, a continental breakfast, lunch, refreshments, conference materials, and networking opportunities with exhibitors. Registration can be completed online at tinyurl.com/BRWC2024. For your convenience, credit card payments can be facilitated over the phone, while checks may be mailed to the Lewis County Soil and Water Conservation District. Please register by COB Monday June 3, 2024.
